I tried to import my 3300 name database, exported from the XXX software (version 5.2.0.35). It read the names and the events, but stopped while reading the marriages. I had to restart the computer. I also tried it with a smaller number of names (200), and then it worked.

GENTREE is able to manage up to 32,000 people - 32,000 marriages - 32,000 documents - 32,000 events - 25,600 index entries - 50 kind of keywords in the texts - 64 Ko text per people - 50 children per people/family - 50 spouses per people - 50 documents per people - 100 links per people - 100 links per people/events - 64 Ko text per document and event.
Verifying for you GENTREE 97 import capacity, I succeeded with a 11,232 people gedcom file coming from Family Origins for Windows version 4, with a 8,577 people gedcom file from Personal Ancestral File version 2.31, with a 4,673 people gedcom file from Family Tree Maker version 3.0, and a 926 (only - I hadn't more) people gedcom file from Brother Keeper version 5.2.
Absolutely no problems with those files.With some non fully GEDCOM compliant files, problems may occur.
But nobody's perfect and, nonetheless, although GENTREE is being certificated as GEDCOM compliant by LDS, I cannot entirely exclude that it may remain some little difficulties.

If you want to test your own *.ged file, download GEDCHK (45 Ko) which may show you what's wrong.
Since the last sub-version issue of the 28th of January 1997, GENTREE has become even more tractable with a great number of those non compliant files. You can download it now. Nevertheless, by accident might you encounter yet any problem, please, do send us a mail with the name of the software producing your non compatible GEDCOM file, or, eventually, send us this *.ged file as an attached file with your message. Install the registred version in the same directory as the shareware : it's finished, and you can continue to work with your own GND base.
